Acupuncture for Skin Health in North Vancouver

Dull or uneven skin, enlarged-looking pores, puffiness and tired eyes often reflect how we're sleeping, eating and coping with stress. AcuLife Wellness offers facial acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine as a whole-body approach to healthier-looking skin.

Overview

The skin is constantly renewing itself, and how it looks is shaped by circulation, hydration, sleep, diet, hormones, stress and sun exposure. When these are out of balance, skin can look dull or uneven, feel dry or reactive, and show puffiness or dark circles around the eyes.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the skin is closely linked to digestion, sleep and the flow of qi and blood, so the face is assessed together with your overall health. At AcuLife Wellness, we start by understanding your skin concerns, routine and health history before recommending an approach.

Common Concerns

  • Dull, tired-looking or uneven skin tone
  • Enlarged-looking pores or uneven texture
  • Dry, tight or easily irritated skin
  • Puffiness, dark circles or tired-looking eyes
  • Tension in the jaw, brow or face, including from clenching

How Facial Acupuncture May Help

Treatment usually combines gentle facial acupuncture with body points chosen for your overall pattern. The fine needles are thought to encourage local circulation and the skin's natural renewal, and many people find that easing tension in the jaw and brow helps the face look and feel more relaxed. Where appropriate, Chinese herbal medicine may be suggested after a review of your medications.

Research on facial acupuncture for skin health is limited, and results vary from person to person. Many people find the treatment relaxing, and it works best alongside daily sun protection, a gentle skincare routine, and attention to sleep, hydration and stress.

A course of sessions is usually suggested, and your practitioner may share simple at-home care, such as gentle facial massage.

When to Seek Medical Care

See a physician or dermatologist for a mole or spot that changes in size, shape or colour, bleeds or doesn't heal; a rash that spreads, blisters or comes with fever; or persistent redness, itching or scaling, which may be a skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or rosacea. Puffiness of the face or eyes together with swelling elsewhere in the body should also be checked. Sudden swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing, is an emergency — call 911.
