Digestive Health
Acupuncture for Digestive Health in North Vancouver
Bloating after meals, indigestion, or bowels that swing between constipation and diarrhea can affect how you eat, sleep and feel. AcuLife Wellness offers acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine as part of an individualized plan for digestive concerns, alongside care from your physician.
Overview
Many digestive complaints are functional, meaning the gut is working in an unsettled way without visible damage — for example irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or functional dyspepsia (indigestion). Stress, diet, sleep, medications and hormonal changes often play a part. Other digestive symptoms have causes that need medical investigation and treatment.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, digestion is central to overall health and is assessed together with energy, sleep and stress. At AcuLife Wellness, we start by understanding your symptoms, diet and routine, and any tests your doctor has done, before recommending an approach.
Common Symptoms & Experiences
- Bloating, gas or abdominal discomfort after eating
- Indigestion, a feeling of fullness, or acid reflux
- Constipation, loose stools, or a pattern that alternates between the two
- Poor appetite or nausea
- Digestive symptoms that flare with stress
How Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine May Be Used
Acupuncture for digestion usually uses points on the abdomen, legs and arms chosen for your pattern, and may be combined with moxibustion. Where appropriate, Chinese herbal medicine may be suggested alongside acupuncture; Hong will review your medications and any food sensitivities before recommending herbs, and may share dietary suggestions based on TCM principles.
Some studies suggest acupuncture may help symptoms of IBS and functional dyspepsia for some people, though results vary between studies. Acupuncture works best as one part of a plan that includes your physician's diagnosis and advice, and attention to diet, sleep and stress.
